Maggie Greenwood (she/her) is a clarinetist who evolved into an orchestral conductor and is a passionate supporter of public education and gender diversity in classical music. She loves building community through joyful music making and constantly strives to be better as a musician, educator, and human being than she was the day before.

Band and chamber music hold special places in her heart. Being from a small farming community, band was the only instrumental music class offered in school, and it provided a place to be expressive and a way to travel. The camaraderie she experienced in secondary school honor ensembles and the bands at Missouri State University instilled in her a deep love of music as a source of community and connection. During graduate school and beyond, chamber music played a similar role in her life through its intimate setting and collaborative nature.

After teaching in higher education for eight years, Dr. Greenwood shifted her focus to private studio teaching and freelance performance. Through her years as an orchestral director, she broadened her teaching arsenal to include strategies not only for piano and woodwinds but also beginning and intermediate orchestral strings. Dr. Greenwood has also taught at the K-12 level and has maintained a private studio for students of all ages and skill levels since 2010. No matter your instrument, age, or ability, she will help you find joy in learning to play.

Dr. Greenwood is also the creator of www.clarinetrepertoire.com, a database dedicated to promoting gender diversity in clarinet recital repertoire. The project began as part of her dissertation at the University of Colorado Boulder and has evolved into an ongoing passion project. The original database only included unaccompanied clarinet works before expanding in 2020 to include clarinet+piano duo pieces. It again broadened in August 2021 to include unaccompanied bass clarinet and solo clarinet+electronics works. The project aims to provide basic information about works written by nonbinary individuals and womxn as well as links to recordings and purchasing information so that clarinetists have a resource to easily find, purchase, and perform a broader range of repertoire.

Maggie completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2019 where she studied with Daniel Silver. She also studied at the University of North Texas (MM, 2013) with Daryl Coad and Missouri State University (BM, 2011) with Dr. Allison Storochuk. She currently lives in the Denver area and enjoys gardening, baking, and hiking when she's not teaching or performing.
