"Dr. Greenwood gave a remote masterclass for my clarinet studio. Her teaching style is full of energy and humor, offering pinpoint accurate feedback that students responded to really well. We can't wait to have her back."

-Ling (Holly) Hang, MM

Assistant Professor of Clarinet

Western Oregon University

"Dr. Greenwood is equally talented and kind. While working with my 6th graders, her patience and genuine kindness took them to the next level as musicians. My kids have a new favorite teacher! Highly recommend."

-Kirby Dillmann

Mapleton Public Schools

Dr. Greenwood gave a master class on Zoom for my clarinet studio in the spring semester of 2021. She treated each student with respect and kindness and was wonderfully curious about what they brought to their performance. An energetic teacher, she gave meaningful and thoughtful comments to each of the students who performed in the class! I enjoyed working with her and the students appreciated both her teaching and her research area. Her compilation of clarinet music by women composers with Anoushka Divekar (www.clarinetrepertoire.com) is a tremendous resource and a valuable asset to the clarinet community.

-Dr. Jessica Lindsey

Associate Professor of Clarinet

UNC Charlotte

Welcome to my studio! I can't wait to get to know you. On this page, you'll find information on my teaching, and of course you're welcome to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.

Who: You! Or maybe you and a friend. Or maybe your whole section at school would like a group class. I have experience teaching both individuals and large classes, concert and marching ensembles, and more. I've taught beginners who are just putting their instrument together for the first time, and I've taught advanced college students preparing for juries and auditions. No matter who you are or where you are in your journey, I'm thrilled to work with you.

Where: If you're looking for in-person lessons, I teach primarily in Louisville, CO. I am also happy to chat with you about having lessons in your home, or I can contact your school music teacher about the possibility of setting up lessons at your school if your whole section would like group lessons occasionally. For those not in the Denver area or who would prefer virtual lessons, I use Zoom or FaceTime and can chat about equipment suggestions to make sure our connection is stable and has strong audio quality for us to have a great experience.

When: I typically teach on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons and evenings. Contact me for specific availability.

What: Clarinet is my primary instrument, but I also play and teach other woodwinds as well as beginning/intermediate piano and orchestral strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass). I have experience teaching and coaching marching and concert band, chamber music, orchestras, pit orchestras, brass bands, and more. I also have a background in music theory, so I can help students who may want to be music majors to prepare for college. Message me to find out more!

Pricing: lesson fees vary based on how long your lesson is, how many students are in group lessons, if I commute to you compared to you coming to me, and other factors. Email me to set up a phone call to chat about details.

Teaching Philosophy

If I had to summarize my teaching philosophy in one sentence it would be “Let the student grow.” This mantra implies an attitude of allowing independence and critical thinking rather than demanding, and a focus on developing a growth mindset and joy in the process of learning.

I believe that we learn most deeply when we are provided with a framework and then fill in the details ourselves. Asking you to make choices gives you ownership of your education. It helps propel you forward and allows me to walk beside you in your journey rather than always leading the way. When I meet you for the first time, I'll ask you to brainstorm goals and have a list of your dream repertoire or projects ready for our first lesson. I want you to know that my goal is for us to collaborate rather than for me to dictate while we work together.

I ask more than I tell when I teach, not only to help put you at ease so you can be your best performer but also because it holds you accountable. Answering questions takes more thought than following directives, which sparks critical thinking skills and questions of your own. You'll notice that you start bringing your own questions along with your own possible answers and strategies to lessons, fostering independence and motivation. By taking the “let” or “allow” approach, you'll build more of the soft skills employers and community partners are looking for alongside your technical and creative skills. You'll also learn in a way that is more relaxed and avoids anxiety or tension in your body so that you always show up as your best player and collaborator and avoid injuries.
